The world famous surf break in Pavones (the second longest left break in the world) is 25 – 30 minutes from Casa Alta Vista, and there is a fantastic local surf spot even closer to the house – within 15 minutes drive. An amazing place for experienced and beginner surfers, and those in between.
Situated on 3.1 acres of land, Casa Alta Vista is positioned on a hillside overlooking the Gulfo Dulce of southern Costa Rica.
It is located 60 minutes from Paso Canoas, which offers duty free shopping and a large variety of imported foods. 60 minutes from the Golfito airport.

Unique design
This property is very unusual – it was built using local hardwoods by a master builder who utilized the sum of his experience from living in the U.S. and Costa Rica to design and construct the home.
The original owner poured such care & thought into the engineering of the home so that, for example, the Pacific breezes flow from the Golfo Dulce up the mountainside and effortlessness through the home due to its orientation, elevation and Japanese style screens therefore it has no need for air conditioning.

Access
Casa Alta Vista is situated in a private estate, via a private jeep track that is only accessible using a 4 X 4.
Parking is directly below the house, undercover and next to the fully equipped and secure bodega.

Entrance
Stairs lead from ground level up to the main house, with its wraparound balcony providing beautiful views of the colorful rich tropical garden and rainforest, and the pacific ocean beyond.

Balcony with sea views
The front balcony offers some of the most sensational sunsets over the ocean that you may ever see. When in flower, the beautiful and iconic scent of the ylang ylang trees which are adjacent to the main house, perfumes the air. The balcony to the rear of the main house offers an under covering laundry drying area.

The Main House
Features 2 bedrooms (or 1 main bedroom and 1 office), 1 bathroom and open plan kitchen and lounge.
The master bedroom offers a handmade king size bed with views directly onto the jungle. Awaken to the sounds of nature singing you to you every morning. A unique feature is a large double cupboard, in both the master bedroom and adjacent bathroom, which is equipped with a dehumidifier – a protective facility from the tropical air, for storing linen, clothes, food stuff, computers, surfboard leashes and any other belongings that require a dry environment.
The second room in the Main House can either be used as a second bedroom for young children, or offers an incredible office space, with ocean and jungle views, and wifi. The main bathroom features a large shower with views onto the surrounding trees.

The Cabinas
A 30-meter stone path is found between the Main House and the two Cabinas.

Green Cabina
At ground level there is the Green Cabina, with its own entrance, bedroom offering handmade queen size bed, large shower with views onto the jungle, and double doors from the bedroom leading onto the wooden deck overlooking the trees and offering a partial sea view.
This deck offers an ideal space for yoga – surrounded by trees & birdsong. When in season, you can pick mangosteen fruit off the trees next to the deck – a deliciously sweet and popular tropical fruit.

Blue Cabina
Separate stairs lead up to the Blue Cabina, with its own balcony offering sea and jungle views. The bedroom features a handmade queen size bed, and a shower with separate toilet.

Outside
Fruit trees and edibles from the garden include multiple varieties of banana, sweet carambola, sour carambola, guanábana, mangosteen, mango, rambutan, cacao, pineapple, ginger, turmeric, lemon grass and others.
Paths allow you to explore the garden, enjoying the beauty of tropical flowers and plants, and the amazing variety of birds and butterflies that are attracted to them. The property even features its own small waterfall, at the base of the land.
Next to the main house is a 190 sq ft greenhouse – the perfect space for growing your own
crop of herbs, salads, tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies and other edible plants. The property has its own pole mounted transformer and separate 110volt mains connection and metering.
Water is collected by 4 x 4000 liters rainwater tanks – which supplies the house with drinking water, showers, toilets and all watery needs. There is also a well – generally only used during the drier summer months of the year.
The greenhouse, fruit trees and rainwater collection system provide a strong base for sustainable living and permaculture.

Birdwatching
Due to the elevated nature of the buildings looking directly onto the jungle canopy, birdwatching is a daily pleasure. Toucans, parrots, fiery billed aracaris, trogons, flycatchers, oropendolas, kingbirds, falcons, hummingbirds – are just a few of the many species observed from the decks and gardens of Casa Alta Vista.

Monkey watching
The morning chorus of nearby howler monkeys is your alarm clock. And during the day you may see a troop of squirrel monkeys swinging through the trees next to the house, or white faced monkey secretly passing along the branches of the travellers palms.

In good hands
There is a Caretaker on hand who lives 5 minutes from the house. He was involved in the original construction of the buildings, and knows the property inside out. He also has a thorough knowledge of the surrounding jungle and local area, having lived here over 40 years.
Retaining his employment will be of enormous benefit to the future owner of this property – he offers an invaluable service.
